School Board Accountability
Real classroom results, zero excuses
"Our schools are failing due to a lack of vision. The School Board must lead a bold turnaround for our students, or they must step aside for leaders who will."
A Crisis of Governance
Currently, LCS are suffering from a crisis of governance. Instead of setting a unified, measurable vision for student success, the relationship between the School Board and City Council and teachers is caught in a cycle of political theater, micromanagement, and distrust.
When city leadership compartmentalizes the school budget into rigid line items rather than trusting the board with block funding, it signals a fundamental lack of faith in the board's competence. A school system cannot achieve excellence if its governing body is merely "managing the decline" without a bold, strategic blueprint to elevate our lagging performance metrics. Our students are paying the price for adult dysfunction in the boardroom.
Political Theater
Rather than focusing on real metrics like reading levels and classroom resources, meetings often slide into personal grandstanding. This creates empty soundbites for social media while leaving daily classroom achievements completely ignored.
Dave's Proposed Blueprint
Appoint for Competence, Not Politics
Dave is committed to appointing School Board members who possess relevant, proven expertise in urban education and organizational leadership. We must completely remove partisan, national culture-war agendas from the selection process.
The Why Behind the Blueprint
The Lighthouse Project
This study was a rigorous study completed by the Iowa Association of School Boards to determine whether there was a connection between school boards and student learning. If there was, how? Guess what they found? 😉
